Good but

the electronic instruments really killed it. I am envisioning a real band playing and that would sound great. However, the hollowness and metallicness of the VSTs look most of the feeling out of the piece.
Either get better VSTs or find someone on the portal to help you lay down some tracks.

DJPureSuffer responds:

I get what your saying. I cant seem to find a good guitar VST or a substitute instrument. I'll keep looking in on this to improve on it. thanks for the review! :D

Crunchy, crunchy, crunchy.

Like the tone.
Ever tried putting a bass track in there?

Number7even responds:

AARRRGHHH!! I know dude! I'm having trouble finding a bass player right now =(

Like you said.

The vocals are iffy.
The intro really builds up the song nicely.
How are you recording your instruments? I'm getting some distortion over the whole track sometimes.
Otherwise good.

xxUltimaWeapon responds:

We recorded through a PA individually.
Thanks for the review!

Melody

The melody needs to vary a little bit to keep it more interesting. That's your only downfall.

At 1:10 you might to turn that guitar track down a bit. As I see it, it's supposed to be a little break from the heavy distortion, so it being a little quieter could help.

The new riff at 2:40 really made the song. Great job with that.

At 3:00ish where the strings come in, for a little while them seem to be a little late, it may just be me.

Number7even responds:

The melody will vary with a second guitar when my buddy has time to record it =) Other than that, thanks for the compliments, I really appreciate them!

Nice.

The drums were really militaristic in the beginning, which I like. You might want to mix up the rolls with another sample of the same hit to prevent the "machine gun" techno drum sound. Great guitar.
It's a matter of personal taste so I'll just throw it out there: maybe you could make the piano track a little less sparse so it's playing chords with the left hand a little more. Also, the piano could be a bit louder.

Number7even responds:

Yes! I totally agree with you about the drums. I am currently seeking out a professional drummer that can play this beat for me and rerecord it. And yes, my friend, the piano is personal taste. How zen of you to realize that =)

Buildup, climax.......

Then nothing in particular. As dissonant wrote, it really needs something powerful to release the tension. Either a heavily distorted guitar or a powerful arpeggiated synth.
Have you tried distorting those drums a bit? It could yield some interesting results.
Oh, and turn up those background synths a little bit (all other ones besides the one that sounds like strings, which is perfect at the volume it is) because the drums are loud.

Number7even responds:

WOW! I'm loving all the amazing insights today =) I can sum up my response to your reviews with this : The Static Rose is a song written about my dear grand mother who is currently in a coma. Her whole life she blocked out her depression and did not seek help. As a result, her life was lived in agony and despair. All of the drowned out instruments represent her drowned out innocence. Bye for now =)

Missing something.

In the first section, the odd clicking synth(?)(actually I don't know what the hell that is, haha) just sounds gimmicky. The transition to the heavily distorted guitar takes too long, the near silence didn't help build the tension (also it wasn't perfectly synced at one part). The part with the guitar could use something else in the background to help fill in the silence within the riff. Good idea but it's missing something.

Number7even responds:

Hey! Thank you very much for your review of my song. I appreciate the time you took to listen to and review it for me. Ok, here's my take. I LOVE that synth sound, man. I'm sorry you don't, but hey differences are what makes life so special. =) I also love the near silence because that took a lot of restraint on my end because I tend to really over complicate transitions. And yes, a much more talented guitarist than myself will be writing a solo in the distorted guitar part. Cool, eh? And finally, don't be so concerned about timing in music my friend, rigid composition makes the music seem artificial and forced. have a good one! I'd love to see your takes on all my other songs =)

Deep sounds.

Some great soundscapes in this.
It was fun to listen to.
The panning at the end was a nice touch.

Micahman5000 responds:

Thank you very much, i had a lot of fun making it.

Good intro.

Liked the guitar* by itself in the first couple measures. The stopping of the drums to focus on the kicks leading up to the snare roll seemed to break up the build up too much though. I mean if that's what you're going for then ok but it seemed out of place to my ears.

*I like the notes, not the distortion/overdrive used. Quite honestly it sounds like the thin-sounding generic one in FL.

Keep me posted though.

DeathofAngels responds:

i was trying to keep it close to he thin one found in FL but this is probably a little too close...

as for the break... i know what you mean but it's just something our drummer likes doing. Breakimg a song to death and restarting into a new beat lol

thanks for the review, be sure to get back to you when it's finished
